The Chancel

 

The chancel wall includes an early piece of stonework

The chancel screen was designed by George Gilbert Scott as part of his major work starting in 1866.

The magnificent organ case by Tapper encloses an organ part of which dates from 1736.
The high altar was installed by George Gilbert Scott

Behind the altar is the ornate Gothic Revival reredos, designed by A C Blomfield When dressed for Lent the appearance is very different.
To the south of the high altar, within the sanctuary, is the elaborate 15th century entrance to the crypt

The chancel roof is a reminder of heaven
